MICA appoints Canada as first guest of honor

May 21, 2018

Following the meeting in November 2017 between the Secretary of Culture, María Cristina García Cepeda and Canadian counterpart, Mélanie Joly, head of Canada Heritage, it was agreed to establish a new working group on culture and creativity, as part of the Mexico - Canada Alliance, to promote cultural cooperation and strengthen the contribution of cultural industries to social and economic development between the two nations.

As a result, the Department of Culture, together with the Mexican Institute of Cinematography, is pleased to appoint Canada as the first guest country of the 3rd edition of the Film and Audiovisual Market and Industry (MICA), which will be held from June 5-9 at the Cineteca Nacional in Mexico City.

For the third time, MICA will open a space for the interaction, exhibition, commercialization and professionalization of Mexican and Latin American filmmakers interested in the audiovisual industry.

MICA promotes the production, distribution, exhibition and commercialization of movies both in the country and abroad, as well as the organization of promotional events that support the training and professionalization of the members of the Mexican audiovisual industry.

Through Canada Heritage, leading representatives of the Canadian audiovisual industry will participate in market and professionalization activities, with the aim of presenting the Mexican industry with an overview of possibilities for collaboration in audiovisual productions, as well as providing a platform for sharing professional experiences between both countries.

In addition, the Canadian Film Lounge, a space dedicated to the exhibition of movies from the guest country, will be set up at the gallery of the Cineteca Nacional, with information from the Canadian institutions present at MICA.

The public, as well as professionals and students, will have the opportunity to visit the Canada Pavilion to learn about the Canadian audiovisual industry and the many opportunities for collaboration between both countries.
