Specialists share succesful cases of conservation, digitization, cataloging and dissemination of photographic archive at Fotobservatorio.

Successful conservation projects, digitization, cataloging, publishing and web dissemination of photographic archives, made at Centro de la Imagen (Image Center) in Lima, Peru, the National Photographic Heritage Center of Chile known as Cenfoto and the Center of Photography in Montevideo (CDF), were discussed on the second day of activities of Fotobservatorio of Mexico's photographic heritage.

Fernando Osorio, master of Science and Arts of the Image; Samuel Salgado, director of the National Photographic Heritage of Chile; Daniel Sosa, director of the Center of Photography in Montevideo and María de María, responsible of the Bilbliographic and Photographic collections of Centro de la Imagen, participated in the Latin American Experiences table hosted by the Soumaya Museum.  Fernando Osorio presented the case of Centro de la Imagen in Lima, Peru, building that stands out for spreading its photo files via microsites and web platforms.

 The member of the Mexican Memory of the World Committee stressed that one of the outstanding points of this institution is to create a formal interagency agreement to upload information to the Internet and "build alliances with government and private institutions to promote the participation of Peruvian photographic collections in the Fotobservatorio project ".

 Samuel Salgado commented the case of Cenfoto, building that hosts a million and a half photographs kept in 60 files, including pictures of case, copy papers, flexible negatives, glass negatives, slides and albums.

The specialist explained that Cenfoto developed the Rescue of Memory. Management, Evaluation and Access, a work program based on a methodological design, collection and processing of information, research, analysis and systematization of results, formulation and implementation of projects, resource management, evaluation, continuity and development of websites.

 He added that due to this program, the most important photographic collections of Chile have been identified and the current situation of photography and the number of existing professional photographers in the country have been revealed.

 These actions have originate the creation of a unique photographic project that, starting from the processes of conservation, selection, cataloging and digitization, have created several photographic collections that can be visited in the buildings where they are hosted, seen in a publication or through a website.

 Among them, he highlighted: the Masters in History and Management of Cultural Heritage of University of the Andes, the project of Luis Ladrón de Guevara, Lola Falcón, Leon Durandin, Raul Gómez, Paz Errázuriz and the conservation of photographic archives of the Municipal Theater of Chile.

 Finally, Daniel Sosa presented the case of the Center of Photography in Montevideo, institution with an archive of more than a million photographs, that seeks, through photography, collaborate in creating icons.

 "So, using several ways, trying to make them see and spread images that have more to do with Uruguay, in addition to project images of how we live and what we do, to other countries."

 The specialist added that in order to achieve it, they have used several tools: exhibitions in the halls of the Center of Photography; conservation, documentation files and donations; workshops and activities for children; CdF editions of books; Foto Grama Festival; outdoor photo galleries (of the city and its characters, historical or taken by photographers to generate a current file), the TV f / 22 program, its website and social networks.
