December 09, 2015

The National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA, for its contraction in Spanish), through the Alas y Raíces (Wings and Roots) program, will present, The declaration of children rights at the 29th Guadalajara International Book Fair, resulting from the collaboration of Polish writer psychologist, Elisabeth Brami and French illustrator Estelle Billon-Espagnol.

From a fun point of view, the authors set out situations around new rights focused on gender issues, enabling readers to discuss and reflect about female and male stereotypes. The original publication in French (2014) was supported by Amnesty International. The book was translated into Spanish by Emma Barroche for Conaculta Alas y Raíces (Wings and Roots) joint publication and Tecolote Publishing House.

This publication consists of 64 pages, has two covers: one in pink announces the rights of boys; the other in blue, invites the reader to know the rights of girls.

These statements seek to generate interest and stimulate reflection and change some stereotypes. And they do it through a playful speech with illustrations of everyday situations as an approach to the notion of human rights, the right to dissent in respect understanding gender equality.

To Alas y Raíces (Wings and Roots) program, this issue is particularly important to address in Mexican society, as in the Global Gender Gap Report 2014 prepared by the World Economic Forum, Mexico was ranked at 80 out of 142 countries. The areas of Participation and economic opportunities and Education were the lowest for Mexican women, in places 120 and 75, respectively, worldwide.

The declaration of children rights will be presented on Tuesday December 1 at 17:00 in the Playwriting Stand in the corridor E 15/16 at Guadalajara Expo, located in Mariano Otero No. 1499, Colonia Verde Valle in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
