Within the framework of the state visit of Micuelle Bachelet

Mexico, guest of honor at Chile International Book Fair 2016

In the framework of the official visit to Mexico of Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, which coincides with the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the restoration of bilateral relations between the two countries, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, president of National Council for Culture and Arts, met Ernesto Ottone Ramírez, Chilean Minister of Culture.

Several topics were discussed at the meeting, such as the exchange of artistic residences, some activities of multilateral cooperation and the participation of Mexico in the Santiago International Book Fair,  it was also spoken of a Mexican exhibition to be inaugurated in November with a collection of works by the muralists David Alfaro Siqueiros, Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco.

The exhibit entitled, Masterpieces of the Carrillo Gil Collection: the exhibition that never took place 1973-2015, composed of 80 pieces, 200 documents, two videos and two pieces of audio will be housed at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago de Chile and it is the same assembly that was to be exhibited in September 1973 but was not because of the coup government to Salvador Allende.

The head of the General Management of International Affairs of the National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA), Jose Luis Martinez, said in an interview that was the museographer, Fernando Gamboa who collected the pictures and safeguarded, so he said in the meeting the idea of launching a call the day the exhibition is opened, for the realization of a screenplay for film or TV series to raise this event.

Another issue discussed was the participation of Mexico in the Chile International Book Fair 2015, where our country will participate with a pavilion where three national authors will be attending. At the meeting, it was noted that the General Management of Publications of Conaculta accepted the invitation from the Chilean Book Chamber to participate in the fair as guest of honor in 2016.

Another agreement of the head of Conaculta was the invitation to minister Ernesto Ottone for Chile to join the platform Filmin Latino, besides to collaborate in the digital issue, not only in film, but also in books, libraries and everything digitally developed.

Jose Luis Martinez said that another of the issues raised by the two officials was that in the context of Mexico's participation in the Pacific Alliance and with the aim of strengthening partnerships and integration existing among its member countries, Mexico invited the governments of Colombia, Chile and Peru to participate as guests of honor at the 43th edition of the International Cervantino Festival.

He also deepened that as part of the festival activities, the four ministers also were invited to a meeting of Ministers of Culture of the Pacific Alliance, which has been convened by Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, to discuss issues related to cultural cooperation between members of the Alliance, which will take place on October 7, 2015.

"The idea is to come to this meeting to consolidate and shape the cultural issue that at the last summit of the Pacific Alliance, held in Paracas, Peru, was established," said Jose Luis Martinez.

About the Memorandum of Understanding for the exchange of artistic residences between Conaculta and the National Council for Culture and Arts of Chile, agreement whose signature witnessed Michelle Bachelet and Enrique Peña Nieto, José Luis Martínez said that the goal is to establish the basis to implement the Program of Artistic Residency Exchange Mexico-Chile (PIRA) for individual artists in different artistic disciplines in both countries.
