Under the activities of the Dual Year Mexico-United Kingdom

Mexico took six projects to Digital Design Weekend

September 26, 2015

Napz: Un wearable, Rompiendo líneas, Higgs, Get the rubbish, Mapex and Percieve me, are, among others, some of the projects with which Mexico participates in the Digital Media Week, meeting which was attended by Grace Quintanilla, director of the Center of Digital Culture of the National Council for Culture and Arts.

Under the Dual Year Mexico-United Kingdom, the project, where besides Conaculta, also collaborate, the British Council, the Laboratorio Arte Alameda INBA, the Victoria and Albert Museum and Ciudad Creativa de Dundee (Creative Dundee City), comprises two stages, the first was held in Mexico City last June (Digital Futures UKMX 2015) and the second in the Small Society Lab at the University of Dundee, Scotland

It should be noted that the Digital Design Weekend began on Friday September 25th and will end on 28th at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London where a delegation of Mexican prototypes will assit for the first time.

The Mexican projects are Napz: Un wearable, which allows you to program and control dreams; Rompiendo líneas, an economical solution to aware about trafficking in places where there is a risk to public transport users; Higgs, which consists of an interactive piece of a planet and a tree that react by external sensors and seeks to raise awareness about the consequences of our activities on the ground; Get the rubbish, a game that educates and teaches the importance of separating trash waste; and also the prototype of a light rail system for this city, on a second floor, will be exhibited at the Digital Design Weekend.

Another proposal presented under the Dual Year is Mapex which is a digital mapping application that provides users the posibility to self-represent their experiences and link urban groups and its relation to multiple areas of the city; Finally, Perceive me, which consists of an application that seeks to confront our daily damage, comparing the real information about the people against what we think of them.

During the marathon held in Mexico City more than 100 people participated and worked to develop a digital project in just 48 hours. Of the eleven projects made in the session, six were chosen to travel to London, where the best art and digital design of the world will meet.

So in this second phase (Digital Design Weekend) there will take place a dialogue between representatives of the CCD at the Victoria and Albert Museum and two writers in Mexico, where those who are in London will report what happens around them, while writers will formulate questions and comments based on the time difference as a notional figure of the future.

The dialogue generated will be done through the platform of Tap Writer, so it can be reported in real time on two printers installed at the Center of Digital Culture, and will serve as record readings of the future.

For September 27th is scheduled in the Victoria and Albert Museum a stand with a microphone that will record audio messages to be played in the Memorial Center of Digital Culture in eight channels.

Parallel to this, the recorded sounds are played randomly in the CCD Radio platform at a specific time. The stand will detail the mechanism of the dynamic, broadcast times and guiding questions such as: What would you say today seven hours ago? or How do you imagine Mexico seven hours ago?

This digital meeting is attended by citizens, programmers, game developers, designers, artists and makers that build links and create new collaboration tools in cultural participation platforms and technological innovation between Mexico and the United Kingdom.
