The 43rd International Cervantino Festival started in Guanajuato

Guanajuato, Guanajuato.- With the opening of the 43rd International Cervantino Festival, culture and science will be the thematic combination of this international festival to be held from October 7 to 25.

The inauguration was led by Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, president of the National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA); Governor Miguel Márquez Márquez; Jorge Volpi, CEO of the International Cervantino Festival (ICF), and Graco Ramírez Abreu, Governor of Morelos.

The president of Conaculta, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, gave the ICF award to set designer Alejandro Luna, in the Juarez Theater, attended by the guests of honor: the state of Morelos and Colombia Chile Peru, which along with Mexico, form the Pacific Alliance.

It should be noted that the International Cervantino Festival will offer along nineteen days over 450 activities in all artistic disciplines, and three thousand artists from twenty seven countries will be in charge of them.

In the Juarez Theater, CEO of ICF, Jorge Volpi said that art is not just fun and entertainment, but also a thoughtful attitude that will help to improve the relationship of coexistence between societies and countries.

In this regard, he said that "we aspire to a better world; it is an almost impossible dream, but, again, culture and art must be at the center of any project in search of justice, peace and social development”.

On his behalf, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa said: "I think that the main ideas, like the meaning of a festival like this one, have been perfectly clear. To Mexico, for 43 years, this festival has become the most important showcase of culture not only for Mexico but for all regions ".

Tovar y de Teresa recognized the efforts and interest of both Morelos government and the member countries of the Pacific Alliance for their participation in the 43rd International Cervantino Festival.

The governor of Guanajuato, Miguel Márquez, considered important to maintain the essence of Being. "Do not lose the identity of Guanajuato and if something gives it to us is precisely, culture."

In that regard, he pointed out that culture, today, is contributing to a better quality of life of guanajuetenses and said that this edition of ICF is also more guanajuetense than ever, because "over 1.300 local creators will participate".

Mariana Garcés Córdoba, Minister of Culture of Colombia; Diana Álvarez Calderón, Minister of Culture of Peru and Rodrigo Espinosa Marty, Director General of International Affairs of Ministry of Culture of Chile, were also at the opening.
