The Maya.  A disclosure of endless time, is the most successful exhibition that has hosted the World Museum in Liverpool, said Mexico's ambassador in Britain, Diego Gómez Pickering, in an interview with the National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA).

Since the opening day, June 19th, it has been visited by over 230,000 people so far, said the Mexican diplomat in relation to the display that presents archaeological treasures from Mexico and ends on October 18th.

Creativity, esthetic sensibility and perfection achieved by the Mayans can be observed in 385 archaeological pieces from the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatan, being one of the largest temporary exhibitions presented in one of the National Museums of Liverpool.

Diego Gómez Pickering mentioned that the museum has received people not only from Liverpool but also from Malta, Scotland, Wales and London, in order to see the exhibit organized by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in cooperation with the Conaculta and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his opinion, the success of expositions such as The Mayans.  A disclosure of endless time is because it is a first level exhibition, carefully curated that shows pieces that the public in England and Europe in general "would be impossible" to see and enjoy.

He pointed out that with no doubt this exhibit has made public details about the Mayan civilization, which in turn has been a showcase of the value of Mexico’s history and the diversity of its cultural routes.

"This kind of expositions are also agents of change, many people have expressed their desire to travel to Mexico after visiting the exhibition," he said.

The writer and journalist, teacher in Cultural Development from Columbia University in New York, mentioned that the exhibit, that will conclude on October 18th, has been accompanied by an educational program wherein lectures have been taught by Mexican and European archaeologists, anthropologists and sociologists who have given a broader context about the display.

"The Mayans. A disclosure of endless time is an exhibition that brought a part of Mexico to England, a nation that has evolved interest in our country”, added Gómez Pickering.

The exhibition that came to Liverpool under the Mexico-United Kingdom Dual Year and was previously in Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Paris, France, presents pieces ranging from early pre-classic period to the present, within the topics: The sacred forces, Man versus time, Community and everyday life, The heart of the cities and Man against nature; The ruling elites and its historiography; Man against gods, Rites, and Enter the path: funeral rites.

The exhibit is presented with a thematic structure in order to show lifestyles, socio-political organization, historical conscience, religion and worldview of the Mayans, all expressed through their artistic creation and marks on various objects and utensils.

In its last weekend, visitors can enjoy an afternoon of mariachi music, following jewelry selling, books and crafts relating to the Mayans.

The Mayans. A disclosure of endless time was organized by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in cooperation with the National Council for Culture and Arts, and its next stop is contemplated to be in Central America.
