International meeting of photographers culminates in Puebla

The First Meeting Collecting Photography in the XXI Century, organized by Centro de la Imagen and Museo Amparo, as part of the Photo Mexico International Festival, specialists from several countries exchanged experiences on conservation, cataloging, digitization, exhibitions and approach to general public of the most important collections of images of the world.

 In the second and last day of activities parallel to the exhibitions, two debates, composed of experts from different nations like the United States, Peru, Brazil, Spain and Mexico, were held and who from various strategies, safeguard the photographic heritage.

 "It is important that someone like Centro de la Imagen, with support from the National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA), take the lead to convene such an international and Latin American meeting, [...] to discuss the efforts we are making to develop cultural platforms, having a capacity of dissemination, information and education to new interested people", said John Mulder, director of Colección Mulder and Centro de la Imagen of Peru, in an interview for Conaculta.

In this context, how to link people in order collections become living? It was one of the questions that came up during the debate: The Photography of cultural foundations, with the participation of international collections; where Mercedes Garcia Ocejo, CEO Fomento Cultural Grupo Salinas said that collections should be valuated, more than its low price.

In this regard, Mauricio Maillé, director of Visual Arts of Televisa Foundation, said that the institutions linked to the image generate more and more interesting and complex projects; in turn, Sergio Burgi, photography coordinator of Instituto Moreira Salles, Brazil, presented the progress in the construction of a new headquarters of this Latin American institution, which will have the best conditions for the storage of images.

 Finally, Carlos Gollonet, chief curator of Photography Mapfre, Spain Foundation, said "how artists create a dialogue between photography and society, thus considered important to valuate the importance of the images, while recognizing the great organization of this meeting by Centro de la Imagen, in the framework of the Photo Mexico International Festival.

The meeting program Collecting Photography in the XXI Century continued with the forum, Private Collections. Personal experiences with the participation of collectors Clark Worswick, Worswik collection, United States; John Mulder, director of Centro de la Imagen, Peru; Magnolia de la Garza, director of Colección Isabel y Agustín Coopel (CIAC), AC; moderated by Elena Navarro, director of Festival Photo Mexico.

 In this discussion, they dealt with the experiences about extend traditional implications of photography and how these collections acquired pieces when photography was not even considered an art in particular and we were invited to approach photography in other ways.

 "Large collections are formed with luck and opportunity", said Worswik recalling how he started this passion that has led him to travel all over the world searching the most shocking images that  have ever been made.

 "My advice is to follow your instincts," was the phrase with which concluded Mulder, noting the importance of belief and defend his interests, because his case has allowed him to complete his collection of images from all regions of the world.

At the end, the director of the festival appreciated the participation during these days of the personalities of the world of photography, who exchanged concepts in the facilities of Museo Amparo in Puebla.
