The organ festival, which is considered today as the oldest of America, will honor Alfonso Vega Núñez (1924-2015), on December 2 with the performance of the papal organist from Basilica San Pedro and Sistine Chapel, Juan Paradell Solé and the Choir of the Ministry of Culture, said Gabriel Rojas Pedraza, director of Cultural Promotion and Development of Secretary of Culture of Michoacán (Secum, for its contraction in Spanish).

Among the several concerts to be held, he said, it highlights the recital by organist Héctor Manuel Salcedo from the Metropolitan Cathedral of Guadalajara, on December 3; a day after the performance of the Symphonic Orchestra of Michoacán, as well as the attendance of Canadian organist Nicholas Fairbank, in the closing concert on December 10.

There will be seven concerts, eight organists, two orchestras and four choirs participating in the tributes to musicians Celso Chávez Mendoza and Norberto Agüeros Rojas, where they will also perform a work for the first time in honor of Vasco de Quiroga (Tata Vasco), by composer Eduardo Solis.

He announced that organists Jose Gómez Pineda, Laura Angelica Carrasco and Ignacio Martinez stand out and as guest soloists Flavio Becerra, Cecilia Becerra, Marichuy Cardenas, Francisco Dominguez and bassoonist Juan Carlos Villaseñor and choirs from Infants of the Cathedral and the School of Sacred Music and Ensemble Vivace, will perform.

During the 45 years that has been carried out, FIOM has had, technically, the Cathedral of Morelia as site, which monumental pipe organ, called San Gregorio Magno, of special sound dates back to 1905 and has originated this meeting.

Added to this, the Cathedral of Morelia has become a splendid setting for this and other music festivals because of its acoustics and space, which allows a large audience, in addition to its architectural beauty that creates a sublime atmosphere.

At present, the festival is recognized as an example and inspiration for other annual conferences to be held in Latin America, such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala and Costa Rica, who have taken up for themselves models, experiences and operational aspects.

In addition, FIOM is among the few of its kind in the world, comparing its quality and prestige, with those made in Europe.

Even a didactic concert will be offered by organist Ignacio Martínez Madrigal on December 7, at 18:00 pm in the Cathedral of Morelia, in order to bring young people and children this kind of music and the monumental organ that welcomes performers in all concerts to be held at 21:00 h. except the opening one.
