At Vasconcelos library

Inauguration of the First International Reading and Technology Conference, LibrosMexico

December 17, 2015

Writers, visual artists, publishers, librarians and national and international experts, reflected on the application of information technologies in the creation, production, promotion and dissemination of reading and the book, attended the Vasconcelos Library, headquarters of the First International Reading and Technology Conference LibrosMéxico which was opened in the building of the National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA, for its contraction in Spanish).

Jorge von Ziegler, head of the Directorate General of Libraries, and Marina Nuñez Bespalova, General Director of Publications, both departments of Conaculta, participated at the ceremony

Jorge von Ziegler stressed that this meeting is a plural reflection in the field of social development based on the technology done in Mexico through the National Digital Strategy.

"It is the policy and plan of action of the government of the Republic to promote the development of information and communication technology in Mexico to celebrate the country's integration in the society of information and knowledge," said the head of Directorate General of Libraries (DGB, for its acronym in Spanish)

This event, he added, is inserted into the Digital Agenda Culture Programme, which comprises the oriented and systematic work of all the cultural institutions of the Conaculta through six key areas.

The first is the digitization of cultural heritage; the second, the generation of contents from the digitization and distribution platforms for public access; the incorporation of information technology and communication in different cultural spaces: museums, cultural centers, galleries, libraries and theaters, among others.

The fourth is the promotion of cultural activity in digital media; the fifth is the encouragement and stimulus to the creation and experimentation of new media art and, finally, the promotion of cultural and creative industries.

Jorge von Ziegler pointed out that the International Reading and Technology Conference is a meeting of vital interest that will let a series of reflections, exchange of views and ideas be shared by specialists "and they certainly will give an enormous enrichment to the work we do every day at Conaculta".

Marina Nunez Bespalova highlighted that this event, organized by the General Directorate of Publications of Conaculta, will address new themes about what is emerging in relation to reading and technology.

"We hope that this day will be productive for everyone and when leaving this place, we will particularly or generally have many questions rather than certainties to resolve over time" she said

The activities of the First International Reading and Technology Conference include the participation of Thomas Minkus and Elisa Yuste who will give the presentation, E-book and digital reading.

Also, Alfonso Ochoa, Minerva Reynosa and Rodolfo JM, will offer a talk on Narrative and New technologies; Ashleigh Gardner and Marina Núñez Bespalova, will give the speech,Technologies for the promotion of reading.

Rafael Ibáñez Hernández, Elena Sánchez Nogales and James English, will reflect on Digital Libraries, and Dan Wagner will discuss about Technologies for literacy and education
