Culture generates development, wealth, living spaces and allows people to broaden their horizons and improve their lives.

The Domestic Gross Product of national culture grew 2.7% in 2012 and 2.8% in 2013, representing more than 426 billion pesos, which showes to be one of the main generators of employment, even above industrial sectors

 This was expressed by the Secretary of Culture, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, participating in the XXVII Meeting of Ambassadors and Consuls 2016, chaired by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, where he stressed that culture generates development, wealth and living spaces, so it is necessary to grant the role it deserves, because it puts an invaluable resource in the hands of people to broaden horizons and improve their quality of life.

 The head of Culture reported that work will be carried out closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen the country brand abroad, and announced that it will reinforce the circuit of national and international exhibitions, in order to both national and international public consider culture as their main interest.

 Rafael Tovar y de Teresa stated that the objectives of the Ministry of Culture is to promote Mexican artistic and cultural expressions abroad, to stimulate education and artistic research, to provide cultural infrastructure and make a more intensive use of it, to preserve and promote heritage and cultural diversity, to support artistic creation and creative industries as well as make possible to have access to culture through digital technology.

 Finally, the federal official said that Mexico ranks sixth in worldwide cultural and natural heritage, fourth in memory of the world with documentary heritage, twelveth in intangible heritage with expressions of the living culture and fifth in linguistic diversity. Mexico has the largest cultural infrastructure in Latin America, with 187 archaeological sites open to the public; more than 1,200 museums; 7,400 libraries of the National Network of Libraries; 1,567 bookstores; 870 centers of art education; 1,913 cultural centers and 119 photographic archives.

 "Mexico is diversity and its culture is the mirror of its multiplicity. Culture is associated with key words in democracy: liberty, equality and identity pride. Culture speaks for itself, it is memory, root and a look to the future", concluded the Secretary of Culture.
