Tapatío group will travel to Germany for a theater children´s meeting

May 07, 2018

In an interview with the Department of Culture, Edith Castillo and Viridiana Gómez, co-directors and founders of the group, together with Mariana Villalpando, detailed that they nominated for this festival three productions of the company: Vote por el león (Vote for the lion), El sur viaja en tren (The south travels by train) and Una historia de gemelos (A story of twins), the latter will be presented in the European country.

Viridiana Gomez spoke of how lucky she was with this call that opens a window to other levels, as they will represent Mexico along with 18 companies from different parts of the world.

She explained that the choice of the plays was based fundamentally on the strength of the set-up  and all its corporal expressiveness. Language is not an impediment to communication, because it is a festival that brings together groups worldwide.

For her part, Edith Castillo stressed that the play is staged by playwright Bertha Hiriart and four children between the ages of 11 and 13 will participate: Mariana Mata, Christopher Santillán, Hazel Plascencia and Jesús Barragán, who have been part of the theater workshops offered by Pequeños Creadores Teatro, a company created with the aim of creating and managing workshops, plays and theater meeting points made by children.

A story of twins is a work that the children also enjoy visually, as the scenic proposal is inspired by illustrations of cut-outs and paper dolls in black and white.

"That's how the little spectators (although it's an attractive show for all kinds of audiences) will be able to laugh, remember and reflect on this story," she said

The participation of the children, leads to the language they use on stage to deal with the issue of gender equality reaches the audience, who is like them, "a determining element that gave them direct access to Germany", said Castillo.

She recalled that this whole project began five years ago with the group Los Ferrocarrileros and the Colectivo de Teatro Comunitario de Valle del Sol, both companies merged two years later under the name of Pequeños Creadores Teatro.

As part of the festival, a symposium will be held in which a program of scenic pedagogical tools designed for 2030 will be proposed. "The children will also have the opportunity to talk about their scenic processes before all the participants, which will be a very enriching trip and for which we are preparing ourselves very well in English", explained Edith Castillo.

Pequeños Creadores Teatro is an independent project that has been supported by programs such as Mexico. Cultura para la armonia, and for the program of the National Coordination of Children's Culture Alas y Raíces, both of the Federal Department of Culture, as well as by the Coordination of Cultural Centers.

The World Festival of Children´s Theater is one of the most important festivals dedicated to educational theater projects for children, whose motto is Los niños mueven el mundo (Children move the world).
