Elisa Carrillo presented the dance meeting Danzatlán

Conceived as an integrating platform to spread Mexican dance worldwide and at the same time to form new audiences with first class shows, the dancer Elisa Carrillo presented the first edition of Danzatlán. International Dance Festival at the Palace of Fine Arts.

Present at the press conference were Lidia Camacho, director of INBA; Mikhail Kaniskin, artistic director of the festival; Cuauhtémoc Nájera, national coordinator of Dance of INBA and Ángel Ancona, coordinator of the Theater System of the CDMX.

Elisa Carrillo said that this festival is presented as a window of Mexican talent to the world through a concept enriched with the participation of artists and cultural institutions that will offer a framework for meeting, dissemination, teaching and appreciation of the several contemporary dance concepts.

She stated that six national and four international companies will participate and offer a total of 17 performances in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, including academic activities with teachers and specialists from Europe, Asia and America.

And the participating companies are the Hibbard Street Dance Chicago, the Dance Company of Sao Paulo, Les Ballets Jazz from Montreal and the show they will perform especially for this festival Ciudad Hip Hop of Boogie Up and Unik Brakers Crew.

As part of the meeting, there will be a talk with Vasily Medvedev about the legacy of choreographer Marius Petipa and a workshop specializing in dance photography will be presented by the official photographer of the Sttugart Ballet, Carlos Quezada, she said.

The first dancer from the Staatsballet Berlin said that as part of the traditional gala that she presents every year at the Palace of Fine Arts, stars from her own company will be present with a premiere: White Darkness with choreography by Nacho Duato, but the American Ballet Theatre, the Mariinsky Theater, the Het National Ballet of Holland and the Mikhailovsky Theater will also participate with other pieces.

She also mentioned that the public will be able to enjoy shows such as Closer, a work created by the famous choreographer of the movie The Black Swan by Darren Aronofsky, Benjamin Millepied, as well as the contemporary piece Kosmos by Adonis Foniadakis.

Minus 16 by the choreographer and creator of the Gaga Style, Ohad Naharin, is also presented, as well as the show based on living paintings Grace Engine, directed by Crystal Pine.

There is also the Suite for two pianos with the Dance Company of Sao Paulo and the conceptual choreography Melhor único día, by Henry Rodolvalho.

"We are very pleased that 13 of the festival's performances are completely free of charge as a way of bringing the art of dance to the widest possible audience and generating real interest among the new generations”.

Lidia Camacho said that this meeting also seeks to generate a dialogue between creators and artists, and to be a platform for the dissemination of dance worldwide with workshops, galas and world premieres.

She also mentioned that the traditional gala of Elisa Carrillo will be held at the Palace of Fine Arts with the participation of renowned international performers such as Marcelo Gomes, Artur Shesterikov, Daniil Simkin, Maia Makhateli, Leonid Sarafanov and Olesya Novikova.

She added that the national companies that will participate in Danzatlán are the Ballet Folklórico of Mexico of Amalia Hernández, the Contemporary Dance Center (CEPRODAC), the México City Ballet and the Ballet Mexicano de la Discapacidad, among others.

Mikhail Kaninski mentioned that as the artistic director of Danzatlán he wants to offer a program that integrates expressions and shows that will undoubtedly enrich the perception of dance in Mexico and at the same time in other countries with respect to what is being generated here.

The venues of the Danzatlán festival, in addition to the Palace of Fine Arts, will be the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris, the Teatro de la Danza del CCB, the Teatro Raúl Flores Canelo at Cenart, the Centro Cultural Mexiquense Bicentenario in Texcoco and the Teatro Morelos in Toluca.
