Under the premise "The best of the world on one stage"

Isaac Hernández presents Despertares at the National Auditorium

May 28, 2018

Convinced of the importance of supporting the creative industries in Mexico, international dancer Isaac Hernández announced the presentation of the show Despertares on August 25th at the National Auditorium, in addition to the activities of Despertares Impulsa, an initiative that will offer talks, workshops, round tables and auditions for new talent at venues such as Cenart and the Palace of Fine Arts.

At a press conference, the performer announced that under the premise "The best of the world on one stage", stars from the Royal Ballet, the American Ballet Theater, the English National Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet and the Paris Opera Ballet, among others, will gather together.

Hernández was accompanied by Cuauhtémoc Nájera, national dance coordinator of INBA; Eduardo Amerena, executive coordinator of the National Auditorium; Carla Sánchez, coordinator of Marca País and Francisco Aguirre, director of Grupo Radiocentro.

The Mexican dancer, currently nominated by the Bolshoi Ballet for best performer, said his dream since childhood was to bring ballet to a massive audience and make Mexico the stage for the best performers in the world. Thus, figures such as Marie-Agnes Gillot and Mathias Heymann, first dancers of the Paris Opera House; Isabella Boylson, star of the American Ballet Theater and Tiler Peck, main performer of the New York City Ballet, will be brought together at this gala.

"It is extremely important to support the creative industries in our country, that is why we have gathered over 14 international companies at the gala. This show will not be repeated anywhere in the world because the agendas of these dancers are saturated and very difficult to put together”.

Hernandez said that the show features such figures as the LightBalance company that fuses hip-hop with dance and the presence of Jared Grimes, considered the best Tap performer in the world.

Other great figures who will be present in the Auditorium will be Brooklyn Mack, from the Washigton Ballet; Joseph Caley and Tamara Rojo, from the English National Ballet and Esteban Hernández, from the San Francisco Ballet.

"Each of them has built a unique career and it is an honor that the National Auditorium can have them for one night. I am also very proud to share the stage with my brother Esteban and to offer a very intimate and special presentation”.

Cuauhtémoc Nájera, INBA's dance coordinator, said that this will be a memorable presentation that seeks to support the flourishing world of the creative industries with a series of activities aimed at promoting performing arts through workshops, talks, round tables, but above all a great gala to enjoy the best of this art in the world.

"Despertares marks a turning point in Mexican dance and connects it to the world. It is an honor that a dancer like him returns to his homeland to enrich our cultural environment”.

Isaac Hernandez said that the fact the National Arts Center joins the activities, as well as other venues such as the Palace of Fine Arts, will enable workshops, talks and round tables to be held in order to build a platform to benefit new talent.

He mentioned that the Federation of Creative Industries, through its director John Kampfner, will be present at the talks that will be offered to the public. The contribution that these have in the world will be discussed, and there will be speakers such as Benjamin Millepied, considered one of the most notable choreographers worldwide, and the dancer herself, Tamara Rojo, who is also the artistic director of the English National Ballet and was awarded the Order of the British Empire.

He recalled that in London alone, where he currently lives, creative industries generate more than $22 USD billion a year, so he is convinced of the platform they represent for a prosperous country.

"As part of this, on August 21, we will be holding auditions for young dancers to offer scholarships with the support of the English National Ballet and we are sure we will find a lot of new talent. I am excited to return to Mexico and see the great cultural development that exists and therefore we have to bet on young people as a card to the future”.

The show Despertares will be held on August 25 at the National Auditorium. The activities of Despertares Impulsa, which will take place from August 21-25 at the Cenart and the Palace of Fine Arts, as well as the auditions for the English National Ballet scholarships, can be consulted on the Despertares Impulsa website.
