Opening of the International Biennial Radio 12th edition, a model of international cooperation

Radio Educación, a decentralized body of the Department of Culture, announces the International Radio Biennial 12th edition to be held from July 24-28, in the city of Bogota, as part of the Mexico-Colombia Dual Year.

In collaboration with RTVC Public Media System, the Biennial 12th edition opens a new scheme of international cooperation and exchange in the field of public radio.

Started as a Radio Education project and with twenty years of trajectory, the International Biennial Radio has consolidated itself as the most important event in the world in its field. In this edition, a new stage of international collaboration begins, as part of the Mexico-Colombia Dual Year, an initiative that allows to strengthen the relationship with this South American country in order to promote cooperation, exchange, promotion and political dialogue schemes that favor understanding between both nations.

The Biennial is conceived as a bridge of understanding between cultures where radio confirms its social importance in the contemporary world. The International Biennial Radio 12th edition begins, as part of the Mexico-Colombia Dual Year, with the touring of its headquarters, which will be alternated year after year between Mexico and a partner country.

RTVC Public Media System of Colombia, as a strategic partner of Radio Educación, will support the Biennial with its prestige, service orientation to the public and quality of its productions, which makes it a continental reference for public media.

The International Biennial Radio 12th edition will contribute to the expansion and strengthening of public radio as a fundamental entity in the dialogue, ideas and expression of the diversities that characterize the contemporary world. Under this scheme, the public radio stations of Mexico and Colombia - which represent Radio Educación and RTVC Public Media System- are service spaces for all citizens and platforms that contribute to the full exercise of human rights in their cultural, communication, access to information and freedom of expression areas.

Considering the common roots and cultural diversity, which are also expressed in the media, the Biennial, in its relationship with RTVC Public Media System, will benefit from the quality of its productions, its management model as a public media entity, as well as its strategies in the conservation, administration and management of its audiovisual heritage.

In addition to the above, in Colombia there is an important theoretical and academic production on the media and its relationship with culture, contemporary media consumption patterns and social participation through communication technologies.

The International Biennial Radio 12th edition will contribute to the expansion and strengthening of public radio as a fundamental entity in the dialogue, ideas and expression of the diversities that characterize the contemporary world.

From July 24-28, the Bogotá District Planetarium will be the setting of the International Biennial Radio 12th edition entitled: Radiospheres. The present future refers to the different areas in which radio is developed, the audiences it serves and the perspectives that shape its future, particularly regarding public media.

The academic program of the International Biennial Radio 12th edition, Radiospheres. The present future is made up of 12 activities including talks, special interviews and round tables, as well as 2 specialized workshops. The closing ceremony will take place on July 28 at the Media Torta Auditorium, as part of the 10th anniversary of the Radionica concert - RTVC's youth radio station - with the participation of Colombian artists such as Los Petit Fellas, Alcolirykoz, Profetas, V For Volume, Mad Tree, La Doble A, Asuntos Pendientes, Providencia Mc Kno and from Spain, Mexico and Argentina Love of Lesbian, Centavrvs and Bersuit Vergarabat, respectively.

Radio Education: National Service of Cultural Communication, an institution of the Department of Culture, operates and coordinates five radio frequencies: Signal 1060 AM, in Mexico City; Signal Kukulkán at 107.9 FM in Merida, Yucatan; Culture Mexico International Signal, 6185 kilohertz short-wave; Signal 96.5 FM in Mexico City and Culture Sonora, 104.1 FM, in Hermosillo.

It also transmits through its Satellite Signal on EDUSAT Channel 2; on the On Demand signal: e-radio.edu.mx; and on its Digital Virtual Signal www.radioeducacion.edu.mx
