Guanajuato International Film Festival

Epicentro, futuristic territory of GIFF

July 23, 2018

The result of technological innovation and audiovisual narrative can be seen in a new and entertaining way in Epicentro, the space that Guanajuato International Film Festival dedicates to digital proposals that give the viewer authentic experiences beyond the conventional cinematographic screen.

For the seventh year, this platform brings Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) productions that show the refreshing and futuristic side of GIFF. Epicentro is now made up of 12 movies in official selection and special virtual reality film programs.

This year's edition features TRENDS, Ventana Sur's movie program, the Latin American film market organized by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA, for its acronym in Spanish) and the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival. An example is Secuestrado (Kidnapped) (Colombia, 2018), inspired by true stories that make the viewer experience a kidnapping in the Colombian jungles during the period of conflict in the South American country.

Google Spotlight Stories brings together artists and technologists working to deliver mobile 360-degree storytelling experiences. Works from Italy, South Korea, Mexico, France and the United States can be seen here.

The Mexican Institute of Mixed Networks promotes the training, development and professionalization of the Mexican VR/AR industry, as well as projects of this nature. Seven works make up its presentation.

The offer is complemented by two speeches: "Blockchain for Creative Industries" by Lynette Coll, who will talk about the experience of SingularDTV, the world's first Blockchain entertainment studio. The appointment is on July 25 at the Mesón de San Antonio, at 4 pm. And "The future of cinema" by Manuel Gutiérrez Novelo, a talk about the initiative born last year to develop a cluster to promote Mexico's 4.0 industry. Wednesday 27, 16:30 hrs.

All Epicentro activities are free of charge. Prior registration is required to reserve a place. Access is available from time to time.
