August 15, 2018

The First International Biennial of Photojournalism Sinaloa 2018 is open until September 18, and professional photographers of any nationality can participate individually or collectively.

Organized by the government of the entity, through the Sinaloan Institute of Culture, this contest will award an acquisition prize of $100,000 pesos in each of its three categories.

The call, which is available at http://bienalfotoperiodismosinaloa.com, establishes the three categories of this First Biennial, in which individual photographs or series that accurately and faithfully represent the scene to which they give testimony may be presented.

The first category is News and General News, in which images documenting cultural, political or social problems affecting individuals or societies will be inserted.

The next category is Nature to show the flora, fauna and landscapes in their natural state, and the theme People, for individuals or groups, whether observed, in portrait pose or performing any work, sports, cultural or artistic activity.

In this First International Biennial of Photojournalism Sinaloa 2018, which is held as part of the Sinaloa 2018 Cultural Festival, each photographer or team may participate with up to two individual photographs or two series that must contain 2 to 10 images, either of the same category or in different categories.

Although participating photographs do not necessarily have to be published, photographers must prove their professional status with documents such as press credentials, membership in a photographers' association or working for a newspaper.

Those interested in participating must register and send documents such as CVs and INE for national photographers or passports for foreigners, in addition to their photographs, which must have been taken between 2017 and 30 June 2018, to the website http://bienalfotoperiodismosinaloa.com.

The photographs must be sent in the original size, in JPG format, without any alteration in their content or watermarks, with a description of the event photographed in a maximum of 200 characters, as well as the place and date of the shot.

The deadline for registration and uploading files will close on September 18 at 23:59 and the jury will be made up of three specialists with recognition in the photographic medium, whose decision will be announced on October 11 through the website www.culturasinaloa.gob.mx

The jury will select a maximum of 100 of the photographs received in the competition, which will be part of an exhibition that will be on display in several venues, the first of which will be the Sinaloa Art Museum, and the Sinaloa Institute of Culture will publish a printed catalogue of the selected works.

The award ceremony of the First International Biennial of Photojournalism Sinaloa 2018, which seeks to recognize, strengthen, stimulate and disseminate the practice of photojournalism, will take place on November 15, when the exhibition will open.
