Plastic seeks to raise awareness of the pollution problem

September 12, 2018

The play Plastic, by the Canadian group Théâtre Puzzle, contains an ecological message and provides a teaching about the creative processes and history of puppet theater, based on a multicolored acting proposal with unusual puppets, humor and unexpected situations.

The play which is presented in the XLVI edition of the Cervantino International Festival as part of the program Cervantino for All, begins by explaining the steps that gave rise to it, then invites the public to make their own figures using two large orange bags to tell a story without dialogue.

Thought of as a family show, the staging establishes a game with the bags that give rise to characters who eat, fight, fly, get bored, search, exist and serve as a mirror of human nature.

The climax is achieved when the bags fight over a piece of plastic. However, their struggle doesn't end there because, as the actors warn, "this can go on for 400 years, because the plastic takes the same time to decompose”. It is here that the theater company tries to raise public awareness of the problem of plastic contamination of the world's ecology.
