At 12 Nayarit venues

Amado Nervo Cultural Festival opens space for young filmmakers

November 20, 2018

The XVIII Amado Nervo Cultural Festival (FAN, for its acronym in Spanish) will be held from November 24 to December 1 in twelve of the entity's venues, with special dedication to the creators of Nayarit cultural identity, the original peoples.

This edition will feature the participation of 313 Nayarit artists, some of whom will be part of the First International Meeting of New Directors, created with the intention of contributing to the promotion of cultural and artistic manifestations of the people of Nayarit, said Edgar Barrón Uribe, director of the festival.

He recalled that five years ago an outstanding movement of young university students began, who have actively participated in rally production nationwide and worldwide, winning several prizes.

"After seeing the results, the festival organization took the decision to support this discipline and create this forum, which will consist of the development of five short films produced by three local universities, along with the Francisco Marroquin University from Guatemala, as a guest delegation," said the organizer.

Edgar Barrón, also a film producer, added that special events will take place such as the Night of Museums in which the museums of the historic center of Tepic will open their doors from 17 to 21 hours on Sunday November 25 with alternative activities and guided tours, culminating the night with a concert by the Orquesta Jaranera del Mayab.

Other outstanding events of this edition are the presentation of the Artistic Merit Medal to Wixárika artist Álvaro Ortiz, one of the creators of the "vochol" (a “vocho” that is a Volkswagen car decorated with the art (chaquira technique) created by this indigenous ethnic group that lives in the state of Nayarit); the realization of the tribute to the Nayarit filmmaker Nicolás Echevarría, winner of the 2018 Fine Arts Medal; and the national tribute to the actor Alonso Echánove.

The Amado Nervo National Poetry Award and the 2018 State Visual Arts Awards will also be presented.

Regarding international shows, Monsieur Periné, Paté de Fuá, Astrid Hadad, México de Colores and Ópera Guau will be performing.

Finally, Barrón highlighted that 18 years after the festival, three initial objectives have been achieved: to bring to the state outstanding cultural events on the national scene; to be a promotional platform for local artists; and to take the cultural and tourist image of the state abroad.

"This year in numerical terms, we see how this festival has grown. We made links with other institutions such as the private initiative to strengthen it, and even tried to make alliances with other festivals to promote our local billboard outside. We're still growing”.
