The Cultural Day of the Day of the Dead 2015 starts at the National Museum of Popular Culture

The National Museum of Popular Cultures of the General Directorate of Popular Cultures of Conaculta presents from Friday, October 23 to Monday, November 2, the traditional cultural day dedicated to the Day of the Dead, a celebration that is a cultural heritage of all Mexicans, an Indigenous Celebration dedicated to the Dead which was declared a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2003.

The Day of the Dead is a traditional celebration in which indigenous peoples of different regions of Mexico express their vision of death. On this cultural day, different ways to celebrate the dead in Mexico, from the colorful offerings and the mix of odors and flavors, to the creative and popular Mexican imagination will be exhibited.

 Traditional offerings from various parts of the country are set up. The main one is dedicated to Gabriel Vargas as part of the exhibition Gabriel Vargas. Tribute 1915-2015. The other altars are Angahuán, Michoacán; Celaya, Guanajuato; Tavehua, Oaxaca; Huasteca Veracruzana; Tabasco (area Chontalpa); Huaquechula, Puebla; and Tláhuac, Federal District.

The celebration shows a particular conception of death through a mosaic of images, concepts and graphics, in order to support popular artists and also for the enjoyment of the public that every year visit the museum, an exhibition-sale is organized where you can buy and know the creative diversity of producers and artists from different states. There will also be parallel activities such as theater, music and workshops over the next week in the different areas of the building.

For the inaugural presentation is scheduled on Friday, October 30 at 17:00 h the opening of the exhibition of Plastic Arts Children Contest “Paint your calaverita” (little skull), organized by the Office of the Deputy Director of Education and Artistic Research of the National Institute of Fine Arts. At 18:00 h will perform the Typical Orchestra of Mexico City which is an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Capital, with a musical program dedicated to this celebration, event organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Federal District.

The cultural day of the Day of the Dead will be opened to the public from Friday, October 30 to Monday, November 2 from 10:00 to 20:00. The National Museum of Popular Culture is located at Avenida Hidalgo 289, Colonia del Carmen, Coyoacán, Mexico City

Offerings

Traditional offerings from around the country will be showed. The principal is dedicated to Gabriel Vargas and the rest are Angahuán, Michoacán; Celaya, Guanajuato; Tavehua, Oaxaca; Huasteca Veracruzana; Tabasco (area Chontalpa); Huaquechula, Puebla; and Tláhuac, Federal District. Day of the Dead Celebration

Day of the Dead is a traditional celebration in which indigenous peoples from different regions of Mexico express their vision of death. In support of folk artists and for the enjoyment of the public who every year visit the museum, the General Directorate of Popular Cultures organizes this gastronomic, craft exhibition-sale that honors the twelfth anniversary of the proclamation of the Indigenous Festivity dedicated to the dead in Mexico as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage, declared by UNESCO in 2003. Typical Orchestra of Mexico City

It is one of the oldest musical institutions in the capital and is an essential part of Mexican folk tradition of symphonic nature that preserves and recreates the traditional Mexican music and the most folk classical music, considered an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mexico City, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Federal District.
