The 2018 Campeche Historic Center International Festival offers 30 days of free actitivites

The 2018 Campeche Historic Center International Festival (FICH, for its acronym in Spanish) will gather around 400 artists who will participate in over 50 multidisciplinary activities, to be held in 18 venues, from December 1 to December 30.

The head of Culture in Campeche, Delio Carrillo, reported that the renowned tenor Javier Camarena, along with the Campeche Symphony Orchestra, will offer the great Christmas concert at the Atrium of the Cathedral on the night of December 23.

He explained that this is one of the most eagerly awaited activities, which significantly takes place in an emblematic place, the Atrium of the Cathedral and the Main Square, with a gathering of about 20,000 people.

In this way, musicians and artists, highlight the architectural magnificence of the historic and fortified city of Campeche, cultural heritage of humanity, which serves as scenery to frame the cultural offer of the FICH, created 21 years ago, he said.

The state secretary of Culture informed that the 2018 festival edition program consists of music, dance, theater, as well as book presentations, aloud readings, talks, workshops and exhibitions.

FICH will take place at Campeche’s 17 venues and will be extended to the second most important city in the state of Ciudad del Carmen, with the concert of the group Bronco at El Malecón on Tuesday, December 18, he said.

All activities, he said, are free entry, and have been scheduled for different tastes and audiences, including children, children with disabilities and young people offerings.

There will be a tribute to Celia Cruz and a presentation will be dedicated to campechano folklore, which is very attractive for national and international tourism, said Delio Carrillo.

He stressed the International Dance Galas, run by the company Dzul Dance with the show Gods of the Old World, with the participation of six acrobat dancers from New York and two guests from Campeche: Nelly Patrón and César Zetina.

As well as the show From classic to contemporary, with dancers from Japan, Argentina, Cuba and Mexico, who will perform works of different genres and styles. The galas will be held on December 18 and 21, respectively.

The opening concert will be given by Elena Durán, an artist with an international career who opens the FICH with La flauta que canta (The flute that sings), at the teatro de la Ciudad Francisco de Paula Toro, on Saturday, December 1, at 8:30 p.m., he explained.

Classical music activities have been programmed in viceroyal temples, but also of other genres, such as An unforgettable night of boleros, with Rodrigo de la Cadena and Olga Maria, on Saturday 8, added the secretary of culture of the state.

Los Líricos de Cuba, young artists with exceptional voices, will participate with a repertoire of Cuban music on Saturday 22 at the teatro de la Ciudad Francisco de Paula Toro.

Rock, he said, will be present with the musical proposal of Centavrvs, on Friday 7, at the Main Square. They fuse Latin music with electronics and make their compositions a celebration of their cultural and musical heritage.

Also scheduled is an electronic music concert Mexico sounds on Friday 21, at calle 59, from 10:00 p.m. and the electronic night in Puerta de Tierra, scheduled on Saturday 29, at 10:00 p.m., he added.

Delio Carrillo explained that Puerta de Tierra is an emblematic space that brings together the most important characteristics of feudal engineering and is an example of what remains in Mexico in terms of military architecture.

In Campeche there are two large access doors to the historic center, which are joined by a main street named 59 and, there, we will also have different presentations of techno and national and U.S. discjockeys music, he said.

In terms of exhibitions, he highlighted the one that will be exhibited in the Sala del Baluarte de la Soledad: it is a show about Mayan culture, where the main piece will be the Jade Mask of Calakmul and will offer a concert of classical music with the Youth Chamber Orchestra, he said.

In the city of Campeche, the 2018 FICH activities will be presented in 17 spaces, such as the teatro de la Ciudad Francisco de Paula Toro, the Juan de la Cabada Theater and the Cathedral Atrium.

Also the San Francisquito Church, the Main Square, the Baluarte de la Soledad, the Puerta de Tierra, El Claustro Cultural Center, the El Palacio Cultural Center and Sala de Fortificaciones, Calle 59 and the Cuauhtémoc Building.

In addition to the Casa San Pablo Mercado del Arte, the Manuel de la Cruz Gallery of the Campeche Library, the Joaquín Clausell Gallery and La Arrocera Visual Arts Training and Production Center.

The Children and Young people Culture Center La Chácara will also host the festival. Meanwhile, there will be a musical activity at El Malecón in Ciudad del Carmen.,

Finally, the secretary of Culture explained that for the last 21 years the program has been developed in emblematic places to invite the public to know and recognize the Campeche’s architectural heritage, through the heart of its culture and its people.
