On Monday, December 3, the reception ceremony for the authorities responsible for the Department of Culture took place at the headquarters of Arenal 40 in Chimalistac. In the presence of the officials of the incoming and outgoing work teams, the Secretary of Culture, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, said that the citizen will be the center of the cultural project of the Government of Mexico.

She reaffirmed that the aim of our policy will be the person and the quality of life of the population; "we will work for the full fulfillment of cultural rights, because culture has a transforming power of reality”.

Among the tasks to be undertaken is to promote the dialogue of deep Mexico and universal culture, to connect Mexico’s culture communities with the world, she added.

The Undersecretary of Citizen Participation of the Department of the Interior, Diana Alvarez Maury, came on behalf of the Government of Mexico to take possession of Alejandra Frausto Guerrero as secretary of Culture.

Diana Alvarez Maury said that it is the commitment of the Government of Mexico to restore and rebuild the social fabric, being one of the great challenges. She added that among the aims of government will be culture, because this is the universal language, which speaks to the soul of Mexicans, of our roots and that is where the values of Mexican peoples will be awakened.

After remembering Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, first secretary of Culture as a builder of institutions and recognizing in María Cristina García Cepeda the first woman to be distinguished with this responsibility, Alejandra Frausto said that the goal is to develop a fair and democratic program that distributes the cultural richness of the country, where the work extends its sphere of action to all communities in Mexico.

The head of Culture explained that the lines with which they will work in their management will be inclusion, diversity and freedoms, to promote the meeting between creators, managers, promoters, academics and the private sector, to strengthen the right of audiences, as well as to consolidate the cultural institution that this country deserves. "Culture is what unites us as Mexicans; it will never again be an accessory”.

Frausto Guerrero stressed that responsible spending will be made, the path between the origin of the resource and its destination, which is the cultural community, will be shortened, and the country's cultural infrastructure will be properly maintained. She said that the ancestral hands that built the monuments damaged by the earthquakes will be the same hands that will rebuild them in their communities of origin. She said that the government headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has earmarked an extraordinary budget for the reconstruction of the heritage damaged by the earthquakes.

For her part, María Cristina García Cepeda welcomed the new secretary, and thanked the outgoing work team for their work and commitment to the institution. She said that culture is a way of life and that it was a privilege to have served our country.
