Joint position between the Office of the President, Department of Culture and Department of Public Service of the Government of Mexico
December 19, 2018Mexico City, December 19, 2018 - On December 4, Senators Geovanna del Carmen Bañuelos de la Torre and Alejandro González Yáñez, of the parliamentary group of the Partido del Trabajo, presented a point of agreement where they urge the Office of the President of Mexico and the Department of Culture to inform about the inventory of goods found in the Official Residence of Los Pinos. In this regard we inform the following:
1. That the properties corresponding to the Official Residence of Los Pinos were delivered on December 1st at 0:00 hours.
2. Prior to that date, members of the transition teams of the Office of the Presidency and the Department of Culture made 3 tours. They were accompanied by a notary public on two occasions.
3. That, in those tours, visually, it was detected the total absence of furniture and items that would include the household goods of the upper floor of the Miguel Alemán house and Cabañas 1 and 2; with the exception of some built-in bookcases, a living room and a dining room on the ground floor of the Miguel Alemán house, office furniture and cabinet rooms.
4. That the list is being reviewed by the Office of the President of Mexico according to the entity that legally received the property. That, later, specialists will help to detect pieces of high historical or artistic value that could account for their location in venues, museums or other spaces.
5. For the comparison of this inventory, items that appear in Los Pinos, National Palace and some other buildings of the Presidency of the Republic will be reviewed. The time stipulated in the law is 30 days from the signature of the delivery-reception certificate. There is a possibility that this comparison may result in important absences or omissions that could be sent to the Department of Public Works and other agencies for investigation.
6. Regarding the Acervo INBA works that were on loan at the Official Residence of Los Pinos, the works under its protection were duly returned:
- With the loan contract 520.CMCMD.03.DAJ.36/2014, 20 works were loaned: 2 from the Carrillo Gil museum, 7 from the Modern Art Museum, 5 from the Art National Museum and 6 from Cencropam. All the works were returned on June 19 of this year.
- Through the loan contract 538.CMD.06.DAJ.83/2014, 6 works of the National Museum of Art were loaned, which were returned last August 21.
- The large sculpture La fuerza del espíritu, by Roberto Álvarez Madero, continues on loan under contract DAJ.307/2017 and located at the entrance of Avenida Fernando Alencastre of the Official Residence of Los Pinos. The commodatum contract is valid until December 31, 2022; the work is a Cencropam collection.
7. The works that are part of the collection of the Presidency of the Republic are under custody of the Real State management, dependent on the General Directorate of Material Resources and General Services of the Presidency of the Republic).
8. For its part, the Department of Public Service will be attentive to any notification, complaint or denunciation regarding the property of the former Official Residence of Los Pinos, in order to initiate the corresponding procedures for its investigation in accordance with the law.
Also, the Department of Public Service informs that during 2019 will carry out an audit to the area Inventarios y Activos Fijos (Inventories and Fixed Assets), to verify the processes of administration and control of the patrimonial goods, including the works of art controlled by the Office of the Presidency of the Republic and the procedures of alienation, donations and transfers that have been carried out regarding such goods.
